The Aberdeen Sheriff Court in Scotland has granted the City Council a Condemnation Order to dispose of more than 200 tonnes of fish being exported.

An investigation into the legal exportation of the fish, led by Aberdeen City Council, was opened after local authority environmental health officers received a complaint.
This led to the seizure of the frozen fish, mainly salmon and salmon by product, destined for Russia. The fish failed to meet the terms of food safety requirements and were disposed of to prevent it being used for human consumption.
Ivor Churcher, environmental health commercial team leader, Aberdeen City Council, said: “During our investigation, our Environmental Health officers discovered large quantities of unmarked product along with product with an identification mark from previously approved premises, which had ceased processing.”
He added: “Officers established that the approved identification mark was continuing to be used to export product to Russia although the approval did no longer exist.”
