Viking Life-Saving Equipment A/S is recalling its RescYouTM life rafts, after being informed that there are potential problems with the pressure relief valves.

Value supplier Thanner & Co A/S has told Viking that there is the possibility that problems with its product Thanner type OTS 65 may cause the valve to break and prevent the life raft inflating properly.

This recall covers certain serial numbers of the yachting and fishing life rafts VIKING RescYouTM (UKL) and RescYouTM Pro (UKSL), sizes 4, 6 and 8 persons in either container or valise.

In the event that both valves are affected, the life raft will sink. However, the company says both valves being affected is unlikely.

As a precautionary measure Viking is recommending that all Thanner valves of type OTS 65 used in RescYouTM life rafts be inspected and if necessary replaced.

The company is urging customers to check the type of life raft they have, along with the serial number on www.viking-yachting.com to check whether their life raft is at risk. The type and serial number can be found on the Certificate of Compliance received with the life raft and can also be seen on the registration label on the bottom of the life raft container or if packed in a valise at the end of the valise.

If a RescYouTM life raft is found to be at risk and thus affected by this recall, Viking is urging customers to contact a Viking approved servicing station for a valve inspection. A full list and contact details of applicable servicing stations are available on the company’s website. The company is reassuring customers that any necessary valve replacement will be free of charge and apologises for the inconvenience caused.
