Strømme AS of Norway hopes to capitalise on new International Maritime Organization rules to sell more Helly Hansen surivival suits to the international merchant and fishing fleets.
A company statement said that from 1 July 2006, all shipping companies will be required to equip their ships with one survival suit per crew member, as specified on the vessel’s safety certificate. It said existing rules require only a small number of suits per ship. Strømme hopes to capture 10 per cent of an estimated €93 million market.
