Slurry Ice Systems, a cooperation between Slurry Ice Systems Ltd and Slurry Ice Systems Iceland, has recently secured its fourth order for another new vessel being built by Danish shipbuilder Karstensens Shipyard in Denmark.

The order for an S16P (64Kw) Slurry Ice System for the Icelandic fishing vessel Thorunn Sveindottir was received just before the Danfish exhibition in October.

This order follows two S8 (32Kw) systems to Lunar Harvest in Scotland and one S16 (64Kw) system to the Danish vessel Tobis.

The 40m vessel will replace the owner's existing vessel, which was one of the first vessels to install a system in conjunction with Slurry Ice.

The system will be supplied and commissioned by Kaeling Ehf, a local Icelandic company which has worked on a number of Icelandic projects in association with Slurry Ice Systems ensuring local service and back up when required.

The system will be of similar installation to Tobis, supplying Slurry Ice to all points on the work deck from receiving hopper to fish hold, ensuring a quality product.

Recent trails done with the Tobis have seen a marked improvement in the quality of the fish by using the Slurry Ice in the receiving hopper. Company director James Duthie points out "It is important to start the chilling process as soon as the fish arrive on the vessel and maintain this all the way through the fish handling process. Fish quality starts to deteriorate as soon as they come onboard - the sooner the chilling process starts the better it is for quality and shelf life."
