With the introduction of the seascan range of ground discrimination systems in late 2000 Seatronics have just completed its first full year of product promotion and sales. Seascan was designed to provide ground type data enabling the skipper to far more accurately determine seabed type, record and plot this data for storage
Steady development throughout 2000 ensured that when launched Seatronics were confident in the systems performance and already had over a year of trials undertaken with a number of vessels to ensure long term performance and reliability. Also developed throughout 2000 were interfaces to a number of leading software manufacturer's products, these included products from Maxsea, Microplot, Sodena, TRAX, Euronav & Chartworx.
Sales Manager, Hamish Forbes says:
"The year 2001 was the crucial year for us, introduction of the product and expansion of the supply & support network was critical to getting established quickly and systems put in place on vessels.
Hamish Forbes went on to explain that success totally depended on the products actual performance and was pleased to say that the results throughout the year have proved the benefit of seascan as well as long term product reliability.
Recent success stories from vessels such as the Lead Us from Stornaway is just one example of improved fishing efficiency gained from use of Seascan. However many other vessels have derived benefit from the system, the Albion Kinnaird, Alison Kay Sovereign, Mercurious, William Joseph, Fertile II and many others are using seascan to there advantage. Nor is seascan restricted to one particular type of fishing, bottom trawling, scallop dredging, prawn fishing, cray fishing and creel fishing are just a few areas that benefit, but any type of fishing that is carried out on, or near, the seabed may well benefit.
As well as establishing a network of dealers in the UK Seatronics have also been active in expanding into overseas markets. Iceland, Norway, Netherlands, Canada Ireland, and Australia have already got distribution networks with Australia proving to be an especially successful market for seascan and local distributor HB Pacific.
