Optimar Iceland has been delighted with sales of its OPTIM-ICE slurry ice machines so far this year.

“It seemed as if all of a sudden the world´s economic crisis was over. Customers had been withholding their orders and suddenly orders started coming our way. The first half of 2009 was slow for us and then at the end of the year, orders started flying in. Our OPTIM-ICE slurry ice machines were being sold all over,” an Optimar spokesman told WF.

The company has delivered a number of systems to Norway, including: a system comprising one BP-105 machine with a distribution system to a small longliner in Lofoten; one of its large B-140 machines to a Norwegian pelagic vessel; another BP-105 for a research institute; and one BP-120 for a fresh fish trawler in Norway.

To Japan, Optimar delivered one air cooled system, type BPS-110 machine, for land-based processing applications and two BP-105s for onboard fishing vessel installations.

In Scotland, it delivered a BP-120 with a 3,000-litre storage tank and a distribution system for a fresh fish trawler. “They are interested in increasing their quality and shelf life of their catch,” the spokesman commented.

In Australia – earmarked as a strong new market by Optimar – the company has sold its first four BP-105 machines, which are currently in the process of being installed.

In Spain it has delivered two BP-105 machines and two 4,000-litre storage tanks to two fresh fish vessels from Vigo.

Looking ahead, in Russia, Optimar will deliver a BP-140 for a pelagic freezing trawler and for a Moonzund type trawler it will deliver a BPT-130 tropical version OPTIM-ICE machine.

The Moonzund type freezer is fishing mackerel and horse mackerel off Morocco. The purpose of the machine is to cool fish in the reception area and increase freezing capacity.

The company revealed these orders for 2010 exceed €1.2 million ($1.5 million).
