Sonavision’s RoxAnn uses tried and tested seabed analysis techniques to produce colour-coded 2D and 3D charts in real-time. With this, a skipper can quickly and accurately identify what kind of ground is below him, for example, rock, gravel, sand, silt etc, and build up personal colour coded charts, indicating favourable types of seabed most likely to yield his target species.

The latest GD version of Sonavision’s RoxAnn gives skippers far greater flexibility in the use of this seabed analyser

The system has now undergone a major redesign, incorporating advanced miniature digital technology, and been re-launched as RoxAnn GD. This has drastically reduced its physical size - it now measures only 200mm x 110mm x 60mm and weighs just 600g - and resulted in technological advances which greatly benefit the user.

The GD unit can be installed on any echosounder, from 24kHz to 210kHz, and switched from one sounder to another, a feature not possible with the previous model. In addition, a skipper can now change range on his echosounder without affecting the RoxAnn seabed data. Combining these features with its capability to function down to 2,000m, makes RoxAnn GD perfect for any size vessel.

The system interfaces with a wide range of plotting systems, including Sonavision’s own software RoxMap, MaxSea, Microplot, Trax, Sodena and Olex.

Manufactured by Sonavision Ltd, it is distributed exclusively in the UK and Ireland by Woodsons of Aberdeen. Since being launched four months ago, 10 systems have been installed onboard UK fishing vessels with several long-term users of the older version upgrading to RoxAnn GD.

One such skipper is Iain Morgan of the Peterhead fishing vessel “Morning Dawn”. Iain comments, “The change over to the new RoxAnn GD has been extremely easy and I am delighted with the results. The GD system is a very important part of my catching and fishing potential and has proved itself as an invaluable tool…I would not leave harbour without it.”

Alasdair Murrie, Sonavision’s International Distribution Manager adds, “Although RoxAnn has been the leading seabed discrimination system for over 20 years, the GD model sets new standards”.
