PAM REFRIGERATION, based in Cape Town, South Africa is continuing to deliver unique packaged, ammonia, Flow-Ice generators to many international fishing clients, including trawlers, fish farming and land based fish processing to various international clients.

The company says its standard systems are professionally designed with 3D modelling and built according to CE standards with CE marking.
The packages are fitted with Grasso series screw or reciprocating compressors. The screw compressor is done with thermo siphon oil cooling, adding to reliability and low maintenance. The most popular systems have a refrigeration capacity of 100kW to 400kW (flow rate of 2 ton/hr – 8 ton/hr at 20% ice concentration).
Liquid ammonia is fed through a LPR (low pressure receiver system), specifically designed by PAM for the application, to pre-cool sea water to -1oC before entering the six Flow-Ice generators. The internal scrappers of the horizontally mounted ice generators are each driven by a 0.5kw motor.
A single pump on each package, driven by a 2.2kW motor, sucks sea water from a header which also supplies the condenser and pumps the flow ice slurry to the pre-chilling tanks, which are located on the rear end of the trawler.
The compact package measures 2.4 x 2.4 x 2.4m and has a small charge of only 60kg of ammonia.
The company says that the strength of a machine can be proved through the production of ice directly from the sea water without any salinity control. PAM’s improved rotor design has proven very successful in low salinity conditions as low as 1.5% sea water salinity.
PAM also has a ‘snow maker’ as part of its product range and is able to connect the snow maker into the Flow-Ice system to deliver dry snow for fish packing onboard or on land.
