A new fishing boat for catching monkfish, S-61 Sjøgutt, was delivered in February by Seigla Ehf. The owner is Tom Olav Hauge from Bremanger in Norway.

This is the first of several 13m boats from Seigla to be delivered to Norway this year

The vessel is of GRP sandwich PVC construction, made by VARTM (Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding). Some advantages of VARTM are that it is isolated, noise reducing, strong as steel, and three times lighter than steel.

The vessel has a drop keel (Seigla's drop keel won the Nor-Fishing innovation prize in 2008).

The vessel has the first Yanmar 6AYM-ETE engine installed in a boat in Europe. The engine will have an Europafilter installed for oil cleaning, which reduces the number of times the oil needs to be changed. This is the first time an Icelandic boat builder has installed this system.

Electronic system

A Kohler 7EFOZD 6.5Kw generator is installed for extra power supply together with the newly developed ASC system (Automatic Start Control) and the Studer HP-Compact 4400-24 4Kw inverter/charger.

On the ZF gear there are two hydraulic pumps installed, 1x147l and 1x75l, both from Danfoss Sauer. The control block is for eight users, with a 300l tank with cooling.

The heating is provided through floor heating in the cabin and wheelhouse. When the main engine is not running, the Webasto Thermo 90ST takes over this job. In addition to this there are four airblower outlets: one in the wheel house, one in the toilet room and two in the cabin. When the boat is connected to a land connection, the two 2Kw heaters from Elbjorn provide the heat in the cabin and in the engine room.

Navigation equipment

The navigation equipment was delivered by Måløy Radioforretning AS in Norway and installed by Rafröst in Iceland. There are four screens in the dashboard:

• 15" JRC JMA-5206BB Radar

• 17" Roxanne

• 17" Olex plotter

• 15" Skipper ETF38E fishfinder

Other navigation equipment includes: JRC JLR-20 GPS/Compass in the dashboard; Furuno FCV-295 Ekkolodd with own screen on the side; Simrad RD68W VHF; Pronav AIS system; Furuno GPS; Intellian satellite TV antenna with 22” LCD TV; Simrad AP50 autopilot; Simrad RF300 and RI35 rudder indicator; Simrad FU50 Follow-up steering; Simrad S9 emergency steering; and Matre pilot guard PG-1

Fishing equipment

Lorentzen Hydraulikk AS will take care of the delivery and installation of the fishing equipment. This is:

• Nethauler 1200Kg

• Net clearer with 3.5m boom

• Rotator for net clearer
