Koden Electronics’ 8-inch color LCD plotter sounder CVG-80 has been well received since its introduction in the summer of 2005.

The CVG-80 has substantially the same functions and performance features as its predecessor, the 10.4-inch plotter sounder CVG-200, launched in the autumn of 2004. The two products constitute the most powerful family of plotter sounders applicable to a wide range of vessels.

One of the first systems to use coloured liquid crystals for its marine electronics products, Koden continues a product development concept that promotes “cleanness, quickness and simplicity”.

Each unit combines a state-of-the-art GPS plotter with a high-performance dual-frequency echo sounder. The display uses high-resolution wide-angle TFT LCD technology to ensure high visibility, and features single function keys to ensure easy manipulation. These plotter sounders have the following main features:

They allow customers to make their choice based on purpose, intended location and budget. A user whose priority is viewing ease should choose the CVG-200, while a user who prefers compactness or low cost over other features can choose the CVG-80. Choice also applies to the echo sounder unit, for which two-transmission output options are available – 600 W and 1 kW.

The keys are separated between exclusive use for the plotter and the echo sounder to ensure simple operation despite multiplicity of functions; exclusive keys are assigned to frequently used functions.

The LCD is arranged vertically for both the 8-inch and the 10.4-inch displays, enabling the user to see a larger image on the echo sounder screen than is provided by horizontal arrangements in the same range.

There are no limits on location. A simple flush mounting for the plotter sounder, equipped with a thin display device, means very little space is occupied, even when installed on the bridge or hung up.

Waterproofing performance is certified under international standard IPX5, permitting its installation even in locations subject to splashing water.

Now Koden is introducing a new professional sonar, the ESR-140. Available from May, this produces a high-speed Searchlight Sonar beam which scans sectors horizontal and vertical to search a 360º around a vessel. It features a colour LCD flat screen which can be installed anywhere, and a stabilizer function is included as standard.

The performance of fish detection is improved by automatically correcting the direction of the transducer when affected by movement of the boat. A target-lock function automatically controls the azimuth and the elevation angle of the beam to always display the targeted fish school on the screen.

The distance to the fish school is accurately measured by a ring marker, and the distance and azimuth by the cross cursor. By setting the boat speed in advance, when the boat speed exceeds the setting value, the transducer unit is stored automatically in order to prevent damages.
