Chemring Marine has launched its new Pains Wessex Manoverboard MK8 and Buoysmoke MK8 lifebuoy markers in Europe.

According to the UK-based distress signal supplier, the updated products are sturdy, robust and far exceed SOLAS requirements.

A two-piece stainless steel mounting bracket makes fixing to inaccessible bridge wings easier, while a retaining clip aids security and helps prevent accidental loss of signal in bad weather conditions, the company said.

The devices were also drop-tested to 60 metres (SOLAS only requires 30 metres).

Pains Wessex product manager Keith Bradford explained the Manoverboard MK8 day and night Lifebuoy Marker produces 15 minutes of dense orange smoke and a self-activated lighting system that far exceeds SOLAS requirements for light output of two candela and two hours duration.

“The new MK8 is identical, except that it does not feature the lighting system, so it’s an orange smoke daytime marker only.”

The new Manoverboard and Buoysmoke products are initially available through Pains Wessex’s European distributors.

They replace previous MOB 360 and Buoysmoke MK2 models.
