US camera manufacturer, FLIR Systems, has unveiled a new range of maritime thermal cameras delivering advanced awareness-enhancing technologies, safer navigation and seamless integration with onboard boat systems.

The successor to FLIR’s M-Series of maritime cameras, the next generation M300 Series comprises five models featuring new pan and tilt housings, four with the FLIR Boson 640 or 320 resolution thermal camera cores and various fixed field of view lenses, plus a visible-only model, the M300C, featuring a high-definition, colour, low-light camera with 30X zoom.
“Our FLIR M300 Series cameras employ advanced sensing and imaging technologies so first responders, commercial mariners, and recreational boaters can navigate safer in limited visibility,” said Travis Merrill, president of the commercial business unit at FLIR.
“These professional-grade marine camera offer industry-leading performance and deep integration with Raymarine Axiom navigation displays to bring mariners a new level of situational awareness,” he added.
Safer navigation
The cameras enable safer navigation through improved image stabilisation using an integrated attitude heading reference system sensor, providing captains with a steady view in rough seas. The M300 Series is also designed to integrate with the latest generation marine navigation displays, including FLIR’s Raymarine Axiom family of multifunction displays.
The dual sensor M364C and M364C LR offer mariners greater awareness via FLIR’s Colour Thermal Vision technology which, together with the Raymarine Axiom navigation displays, blends thermal and visible colour video for easy identification of targets at night. Additionally, both models feature FLIR’s MSX imaging technology which extracts edges and borders from the visible camera and blends these elements with the thermal image, giving operators improved sight of distant objects.
