Icelandic man overboard safety company Markus Lifenet is introducing the Markus Man Overboard Scramble Net/Cradle in order to offer a complete set of MOB solutions that can be used in all conditions.

The company is already well-known for its Markusnet man overboard rescue unit type MS, throw lines, safety ladders and Markus MOB Boat (FRB) Rescue-net for FRB boats.

The Scramble Net/Cradle enables a single crew member to render the light, reliable and effective man overboard recovery device to the person in distress, so that several people can climb up, or one person at a time be lifted manually onboard by two deck rescuers.

It is similar to the MOB Boat Rescue-net, but tailor made to larger vessels. The advantages are that it is mobile, deployable by one deck crew in seconds, easy to grasp and step onto from the sea and can be used to elevate the MOB up manually or by crane in a horizontal position.

The Scramble Net/Cradle type SCN is tailor made for the vessel in 120cm-240cm horizontal width and variable vertical lengths suitable to cover the freeboard height plus 1.5-2m. The Markus MOB Scramble Net/Cradle can be deployed either manually or by crane.

Markus Lifenet designer, Petur Th. Petursson, tells World Fishing & Aquaculture that it is very practical and durable as it can be stored away from the elements, used in MOB training exercises and repacked and inspected by the crew onboard. It has also been designed to work in very harsh weather.

The Scramble Net/Cradle type SCN is currently going through the type approval process, but it has already been accepted by many maritime administrations and sold to many existing customers who are very happy with the system. The Scramble Net/Cradle is being offered as an addition with the Markusnet type MS for fishermen, giving them realistic possibilities for all situations at sea, not just when crane or MOB boat can be used.
