With a growing market for effective cooling of fish both in the pelagic and aquaculture sector, Danish company IRAS decided to completely re-design its flow ice machine.

The intention was to make it more versatile, easier to operate, and add more operational features – all in a design that makes it easy to clean.
The FIM10 Automatic uses two different methods to produce flow ice, either with a mix of crushed ice, fresh water and brine, or with crushed ice and seawater. The ingredients are mixed together and go into the pump which then distributes the flow ice to delivery points at a capacity of up to 10t/hr.
The FIM10 Automatic is built on the idea of only producing flow Ice when needed. Because of this, there is no need for flow ice storage facilities and therefore no flow Ice that needs to be disposed of at the end of production.
The standard control system can handle up to six delivery points, although a special control system for more delivery points can be supplied upon request. Delivery points can be controlled in a number different ways. For example, temperature controlled with sensor which will automatically call for more flow ice if the temperature gets above a set level (which can be adjusted).
All settings and machine overview can be accessed at the from the colour touch panel in the control box, where it is also possible to store up to 10 different electronic recipes for flow ice, adjusting the mixture to achieve temperatures as low as -10 degrees.
One of the new key features is the CIP Program which automatically allows for circulating cleaning fluid through the machine and distribution manifold after it has been emptied. This runs on a timer that can easily be changed depending on how extensive the distribution manifold is.
Key features and advantages:
- Color touch panel
- Capacity 4-10t flow ice per hour
- Continuous delivery of flow ice
- Variable temperature of the flow ice down to -10 degrees (depending on type of ice)
- Extreme fast cooling
- Pumpable flow ice up to 200m distance
- CIP program which allows for circulation of cleaning fluid through the machine and distribution manifold (requires connection to a return pipe to the FIM10 machine)
- Closed design for protection of vital parts
- Removable sides for maintenance access
