IceBits from Iceland is currently developing a ''total fish plant'' for a company in the Sultanate of Oman.
The plant will consist of a grader, a plate freezer, a frozen storage area, a convertible room for storage or refrigerated drying and a fishmeal plant.
Depending on the degree of decomposition of landed harvests, some one-third to two-thirds of the bulk will be able to be separated and graded in three or more sizes. The entire harvest will leave the plant as either frozen blocks, dried fish and fishmeal. The prime products are for human consumption and to feed exotic animals in growout and husbandry and the fishmeal will be fed to livestock.
The brown arrows in the picture indicate the flow of material through the facility. Moisture, including the pumping carrier, evaporates and condenses to potable water and the fish oil fuels the boiler.
Internal air pressure in the building is kept just below prevailing atmospheric conditions and the blue arrows show how odour-contaminated air is collected and sent for deodorisation at odour control. In short, the facility is fully environmentally friendly - releasing no fluids, no solids and no smell to its surroundings.
