James Appiah, a native Ghanaian, has a successful transportation business in Sydney, Australia and is now looking at establishing ice production facilities throughout Ghana.

Accra was originally built around a port, and fishing is one of the predominant economic activities. The KTI Block Ice Plant will to provide plenty of effective refrigeration to the fishing and farming communities when it is up and running in January 2014.

It will feature a state-of-the-art refrigeration plant with titanium heat exchanger, economizer, ozone-friendly R404A refrigerant, as well as refrigerated ice storage. All components will be containerised and self-contained. The plant will be powered with a 165 kVA diesel generator which will automatically switch on and off in the event of electrical power failure.

"This investment is my first contribution to the economic development of my native country”, Mr Appiah said. “We are certainly looking at opening more ice centres throughout West Africa in the coming years with help of KTI. They provide an advanced engineering and a refrigeration technology we can rely on.”
