Norway''s C-MAP says it is the first company to get ISO 19379 standard for its CM-93/3 electronic chart database. A statement said the standard specifies the requirements for Electronic Chart Systems (ECS) databases, especially as regards the elements relevant to safety of navigation, such as content, quality and updating.
The standard was developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), with the contribution of hydrographic offices, classification authorities, and the marine industry and is being adopted by maritime administrations to regulate the use of ECS. In Italy, for example, it is part of the requirements for approved ECS which can replace paper charts on certain types of craft.
The CM-93/3 database certification was done by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).
CM-93/3 is a database of approximately 20,000 electronic vector charts, with worldwide coverage, which is mostly used in electronic nautical chart displays and high-performance ECS on International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS-class) ships.
It is also widely used in vessel traffic control centres and on naval vessels in both navigation and command and control systems.
