The health and safety implications of high temperature in a hydraulic system can not only cause serious injuries such as burns, but in addition, shortened life of the hydraulic hoses which will ultimately lead to failure of the hydraulic system which would be costly to replace.

Another health and safety risk that tends to come hand in hand with high temperatures is loud high frequency noise which can be potentially damaging to the human ear and lead to long term more permanent problems.

Belesta is an advanced range of friction reducing lubrication products that are used throughout the fishing industry. The Belesta range is able to reduce friction, noise and wear while greatly decreasing fuel consumption.

For example, an owner of a Scottish fishing boat had been experiencing high operating temperatures of 70˚C and along with this, associated noise caused by overworked hydraulics on the boat.

An addition of 5% Belesta LC2 was added to the main 2000L hydraulic system. Within two hours of addition of the Belesta LC2, there was a 5˚C temperature drop and a 3dB noise reduction, removing the high pitched cavitation noise from the hydraulic pump.

After further evaluation three weeks later, the temperature was measured at 60˚C and noise dropping a further 1.8dB which was a significant difference.
