New Zealand''s company Prion has officially launched a new fish hook system, that consists in an automated process of assembling fish hooks onto monofilament nylon to make snoods. The new system enables a more effective replacement for traditional polyester rope systems.

Prion's automated machinery selects a hook, monofilament nylon is fed through the eye of the hook from a large spool, the nylon is cut to length and the hook attached.

Prion says that the new system brings big cost savings and is easy to use.

At present, both snoods and hooks have to be replaced if only one of them is damaged. The new snood system allows to replace the hooks or snoods independently if one of them is damaged.

Prion is collaborating with Norwegian Fiskevegn to market the snoods. There are already two boats in Australia and one in New Zealand trying the system.
