North Sea Winches’ latest supply to the UK fishing industry is a winch and net drum package for a 21.5m twin-rig trawler which has recently completed sea trials.

North Sea Winches has supplied a winch and net drum package for Jubilee Quest

The vessel, MFV Jubilee Quest, replaces an earlier boat of the same name and was built at Parkol Marine in Whitby for a joint venture between Olbeck Fishing Co. and Jubilee Fishing Co. of Grimsby.

This package includes a 20 tonne main winch, 10 tonne split net drums and various auxiliary winches, as well as a complete engine-room hydraulics package with wheelhouse controls, designed and supplied by North Sea Winches. There is also a fully-rated back-up system driven from one of the auxiliary engines to allow the vessel to keep fishing with winches at full power in case the main-engine driven system fails.

The net drums supplied feature central dividing flanges which can also be bolted to the end flanges to create large single drums with double the pull.

The vessel was launched in early October and commissioning was completed in the middle of the month in time for successful sea trials.

In addition to the UK fishing industry, the company designs and builds winches for fishing and marine applications worldwide. North Sea Winches has fishing installations in vessels operating from Europe, China, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Tanzania (Lake Victoria), and winches for other marine projects have been deployed even further afield including Tonga and the Falkland Islands.
