The Shipowners’ Club, P&I insurer in the smaller and specialist vessel sector, has announced the appointment of Steve Randall to the board of the Shipowners’ Protection Limited (SPL) as commercial director.

Mr Randall, who was previously commercial director for Asia for just over three years, will continue to drive the Club’s business development strategy from Singapore, with an increased focus in his new role on worldwide business development. As part of his wider remit and position on the board, he will work closely alongside the underwriting and claims teams in both London and Singapore.

Simon Swallow, chief executive of The Shipowners’ Club, said, “I am delighted to welcome Steve into his new role as commercial director and to the board of SPL. As our longest serving member of staff, Steve has very much been part of the Club’s successful business development, especially in Asia, where we have seen the Club go from strength to strength since the Singapore office was established in 2009. As a Club we are well prepared for the opportunities in 2015 and beyond and will continue to provide exceptional service to all of our members.”

Mr Randall said, “I look forward to working more closely with my colleagues in the London office on the commercial direction of the Club to develop our markets outside of Asia. While Singapore remains one of our key markets worldwide, I am keen to build upon the wealth of experience and depth of management in new territories so that we are able to take advantage of opportunities where they present themselves for the benefit of our members.”
