The Mermaid J444 is a 4 cylinder, naturally aspirated heavy duty marine diesel engine and is based on the highly reliable JCB 444 series industrial engine.
The engine is suitable for all commercial duties and, with the optional gear driven hydraulic pump, is particularly suited to inshore fishing vessels and small workboats.
This engine is the result of an £80M investment programme by JCB who wanted to fit its industrial plant and machinery with its own state of the art reliable, fuel efficient and clean diesel engine.
The design incorporates the latest diesel engine technology including four valves per cylinder with mechanical or electronic common rail fuel systems to keep exhaust emissions in compliance with Tier 3 requirements. The technology also serves to minimise noise levels to 89dBA, whilst maintaining exceptionally low fuel consumption.
Each marine engine is individually assembled to the highest standards and incorporates a purpose designed combined heat exchanger and exhaust manifold as well as an integral freshwater oil cooler to maintain optimum oil temperature.
