The MSC fishery certification, which is valid for five years, certifies that the Camanchaca Pesca red and yellow langostino lobster fisheries are keeping stock biomass healthy, while respecting the marine ecosystem.

“The MSC certification is very important to our company, especially because it supports that the langostino lobster fishing operations are conducted in a responsible and sustainable manner,” said Ricardo García, Camanchaca Pesca's CEO.

MSC certification is an important milestone for the company and for the MSC because only eight fisheries have obtained MSC recognition so far in South America. Camanchaca Pesca is the sixth fishery to obtain certification in Chile.

The MSC evaluation involved several relevant stakeholders including universities, fishermen, and Chilean Fisheries Management Agencies, among others.

During the certification process, Camanchaca Pesca implemented new fishing trawling nets which help ensure that the langostino lobster fishery is doing its bit to protect the environment and species living at the bottom of the seabed.

The company has also committed to fighting illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Camanchaca Pesca now also verifies its seafood products are traceable and sustainable through the MSC Chain of Custody certification.

Earlier this month, the company celebrated the launch of its first Sustainability Report for its fishing division.
