Brunvoll propulsion and manoeuvring systems have been selected for six new fishing vessels being built at Karstensens Skibsværft in Skagen for Norwegian, Swedish and Scottish companies, to be delivered over the coming two years.

“Our products and systems are well adapted to modern ship designs. Karstensen designs focus on reduced emissions and a green operating profile in their vessels. This corresponds very well with Brunvoll’s systems designed for optimum efficiency and low energy consumption,” said Arne Tennøy, Sales Manager Fishery & Aquaculture at Brunvoll, who is understandably highly satisfied that such a large proportion of newbuilds for the fishing industry have chosen Brunvoll systems.
“Innovative fishing vessel owners are keen to improve their operations, and it is exciting to see that our retractable azimuth thruster is a success in fishing. Since 2004 when purse seiner/trawler Libas was the first fishing vessel to install Brunvoll’s retractable azimuth thruster, several other fishing vessels have experienced the benefits of this way of manoeuvring. Especially high interest from pelagic trawlers and the longliners, and now also the Danish seine and bottom trawl vessels have shown an increasing interest,” he said, commenting that efficiency and reduced emissions are important for the fishing industry, and Hybrid Propulsion Systems often in combination with a two-speed gearbox, have proven to give significant energy savings.
“Brunvoll has long experience in designing hybrid systems optimised for the operation profile of the vessel.” Arne Tennøy said.
Both Swedish company Gifico and Norwegian company Sille Marie AS have each ordered a pair of 700kW thrusters and BruCon control systems for their new vessels Ginneton and Sille Marie, and the owners of Scottish pelagic vessel Christina S opted for a system consisting of a 950kW transverse thruster, an 850kW retractable azimuth combi thruster and BruCon control system.
Gollenes AS has placed an order for a 69.99 metre trawler, which will have a Brunvoll Hybrid Propulsion system with a 4500mm CP-propeller and a reduction gearbox with PTO/PTI designed for electric mode, power-take home and boost, a thruster system of with twin 950kW transverse thrusters and BruCon control system.
“We are very satisfied with the collaboration with Brunvoll. We believe that Brunvoll has a good product, which also satisfies our shared clients,” said Kent Damgaard at Karstensens Skibsværft.
“It makes complete sense for Karstensens Skibsværft to continue with Brunvoll as more or less the exclusive supplier of thruster systems.”
In addition to the new vessels listed, two more contracts have been secured that have yet to be made public.
