At the SMM exhibition in Hamburg, Xantic displayed a new web-based tool, AMOS Connect Online, which makes it easier for ship managers to manage vessel mailboxes from the office. It can be used anywhere the internet is within reach and no special software is required.AMOS Connect Online offers easy management for total control of email costs and traffic, including adding/deleting mailboxes, editing file size restrictions and black/white lists, queue management, call/message history and reports.
It is free of charge for all AMOS Connect customers.
AMOS Connect, Xantic's successful email system, integrates email, fax, SMS, telex and ship management applications into one single messaging system.
The AMOS Connect software has proven itself in practice on almost 6,000 of these vessels.. Hundreds of vessels have recently installed AMOS Connect as their key messaging system.
Maritime players using the AMOS Connect software include P&O Nedlloyd, BP Shipping, Seatrade, Royal Netherlands Navy, Hanjin Shipping, Evergreen, Cosco and Fleet Management Ltd.
Future developments
The next release of AMOS Connect will see other significant features added, such as:
* PPP support: This means no TA/modem needed between the PC and the Inmarsat Fleet terminal (plug and play).
* Download headers, similar to IMAP. Costs can be reduced by selecting which messages the vessel wishes to receive. This feature is especially interesting when vessels stay for longer periods in harbour and the mailbox is full because of lesser dial-in connections.
The Holland based company has also announced the introduction of a new 128 kbit/s ISDN channel for Fleet 77 terminals. The existing terminals only need a software upgrade in order to have access to 128k ISDN speed.
It will be an additional channel, with the current 64 kbit/s channel continuing to be available.
The 128 kbit/s ISDN channel is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2005.
