Outstanding Icelandic Skipper: Kristbjörn Árnason

Kristbjörn Árnason is one of the most experienced and successful skippers of the fishing fleet and he has, during a long and prosperous career, gained immense respect, which only those who have accomplished exceptional achievements in this work achieve. For decades he has contributed immeasurably to the success of the Icelandic commercial fishing fleet. Ari P. Wendel, Head of Domestic Seafood Team at Landsbanki presented the award to Kristbjörn.

Outstanding Icelandic Fleet: Bergur-Huginn

This award acknowledges the achievements of a company, which has played a leading role in raising standards of efficiency and economic performance in the Icelandic industry. Bergur-Huginn is a progressive processing company which has recently bought new vessels. They now own and operate three fishing trawlers from the Westman Islands. Ari P. Wendel, Head of Domestic Seafood Team at Landsbanki handed the award to Magnús Kristinsson from Bergur-Huginn who called all the skippers to the stage to pose for a photograph.

Outstanding Icelandic Processor: Skinney-Þinganes

Skinney-Þinganes from Hornafjördur is a technically advanced processing company which processes many different species of fish including groundfish, lobster, herring and capelin. The raw material comes from their own seven vessels. The company's marketing is very progressive and they are very important to the Hornafjörður community. Ari P. Wendel, Head of Domestic Seafood Team at Landsbanki presented the award to Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson from Skinney-Þinganes.

Outstanding Achievement: Kristján Ragnarsson

Kristján Ragnarsson is the former chief executive of the Federation of Icelandic Fishing Vessel Owners. He was the main spokesman for advocating sustainable harvesting of fish stocks in Icelandic waters and forward thinking in administering deep sea fishing. Kristján has had many positions of trust for his federation, and was for decades one of the Icelandic fishing vessel owners' main spokesman. Guðjón Einarsson, Editor of Fiskifréttir handed the award to Kristján.

Outstanding Icelandic Supplier Catching, Small Company: Naust Marine

Naust Marine designed the automatic trawl winch system that has been in development since 1979. The company specialises in selling equipment for ships and the marine industry. Guðjón Einarsson, Editor of Fiskifréttir presented the award to Snæbjörn Sveinsson from Naust Marine.

Outstanding Icelandic Supplier Catching, Large Company: Hampiðjan

Hampiðjan is interwoven with the Icelandic fishing industry. The company has evolved to become one of the largest fishing gear manufacturers of the world, having 14 entities in four continents with over 600 employees. The company constantly conducts research and product development of underwater and flume tank research, sophisticated computer software simulation and extensive on-site trials in order to find the best possible solution for their customers. Haraldur Flosi Tryggvason, Director of Viðskiptablaðið handed the award to Haraldur Árnason from Hampiðjan.

Outstanding Icelandic Supplier Processing, Small Company: Valka

Valka is a hi-tec Icelandic company that develops and markets automation solutions for the fish processing industry. The comapny's primary objective of improving the quality and yield of the raw material, results in a higher selling price for the processed fish products. Bjarni Þór Jónsson, Mercator Media's Icelandic Representative presented the award to Helgi Hjálmarsson from Valka.

Outstanding Icelandic Supplier Processing, Large Company: 3X Technology

3X Technology was established in Iceland in 1994 and the compnay focuses on designing and producing processing equipment for the seafood industry in Iceland. The company has had substantial success in exporting Icelandic goods and services to international markets. Marianne Rasmussen-Coulling, Business Manager of The Icelandic Fisheries handed the award to Jóhann Jónasson from 3X Technology.

Outstanding International Supplier Catching, Small Company: Electronic Navigation Ltd

The judges chose Electronic Navigation Ltd's WASSP WMB160f Multibeam Sonar for its ability to enable vessels to avoid sensitive habitat and to significantly reduce fuel consumption. Marianne Rasmussen-Coulling, Business Manager of The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition and Awards presented the award to Greg Fletcher, International Sales, Electronic Navigation Ltd.

Outstanding International Supplier Catching, Large Company: Furuno

The judges chose Furuno's NavNet 3D navigation system, incorporating the new ultra high definition digital radar and Furuno digital filter fish finder, as they were very impressed with the navigation system and integrated hi-tec components to aid fish catching. Andrew Webster, Managing Director of Mercator Media handed the award to Freddie Hansen, Managing Director of Furuno Danmark A/S.

Outstanding International Supplier Processing, Small Company: Exos AB

The judges chose EXOS' A302 pinboner for its ability to give higher yield, higher through-put and better quality. Tim Hills, Advertisement Sales Manager of World Fishing presented the award to Anders Tärnström, CEO of Exos AB.

Outstanding International Supplier Processing, Large Company: Ishida Europe

The judges chose Ishida's IX-GA Series X-Ray Inspection Systems as they are impressive and versatile systems capable of detecting not only contamination of food products but also of checking product shape, thickness and correct number of pieces in a wide range of pack sizes. Carly Wills, Editor of World Fishing handed the award to Nick Clark, Business Manager - Multivac of Ishida Europe.

Overall Outstanding Supplier: Hampiðjan

The outstanding overall supplier has been selected from the six winners of the supplier awards. Whilst acknowledging the immense contributions of the other winners and finalists, this award is made to a company which leads the way in designing and producing fishing equipment, and is constantly moving ahead. Marianne Rasmussen-Coulling, Business Manager of The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition and Awards presented the award to Ingi Þórðarson from Hampiðjan.

Best New Product: SeaData electronic logbook from TrackWell

The TrackWell SeaData system gives captains and fleet managers a valuable tool to help planning future fishing trips based on experience. It helps selecting the fishing grounds that are likely to provide the intended species with respect to time of the year, weather and sea conditions. Guðmundur P Davíðsson, President of Eimskip Iceland handed the award to Jón Ingi Björnsson, CEO of TrackWell

Best Individual Stand up to 50m2: VÍS

This award was given to the company that had the most eye catching and informative presentation of its products or services at the exhibition. Ari P. Wendel, Head of Domestic Seafood Team at Landsbanki presented the award to Guðmundur Örn Gunnarsson, CEO of VÍS.

Best Individual stand over 50m2: N1

This award was given to the company that had the most eye catching and informative presentation of its products or services at the exhibition. Bjarni Þór Jónsson, Mercator Media's Icelandic Representative handed the award to Gunnlaugur Thrainsson, N1's Marketing Manager.

Best Group Stand: The Faroe Islands Group Stand

National, regional and port groups are judged for the Best Group Stand, the winner being the group which has provided the most effective presentation of its members' products and services at the exhibition. Marianne Rasmussen-Coulling, Business Manager of The Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition and Awards presented the award to Unn Poulsen, Project Manager from SamVit - Faroe Islands Enterprise.
