The multi-millionaire has reportedly invested another US$16m in the company, taking his share in the company up to almost one third.

This follows on from the further 2.500.000 Marine Harvest common shares purchased by Geveran back in June.

It was back in 2006 that Mr Fredriksen, under the auspices of Geveran Trading, first showed off his hunger for farmed salmon. After more than a year of buying, merging and structuring the final result was the new Marine Harvest.

Comprising the old Marine Harvest, Pan Fish, Stolt Sea Farm and Fjord Seafoods it is the biggest farmed seafood company in the world.

In August 2013, backed by a strong market, Marine Harvest delivered its best second quarter in history.

The group achieved an operational EBIT of NOK901m in the second quarter of 2013, compared to NOK231m in the corresponding quarter of 2012.

It expects to harvest a volume of 335000 tonnes gutted weight in 2013, of which 80000 tonnes are expected to be harvested in the third quarter.

CEO Alf-Helge Aarskog says the future prospects for Marine Harvest are good. The company is ramping up production estimates by 55000 tonnes in 2014 to 390000 tonnes.
