Gael Force Group will build a 400t SeaMate feed barge with an eight-line feeding system for The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC).

The custom-designed 14m concrete pontoon is fitted with SeaFeed technology and includes a silos, plant room and generator. It will be used at SSC’s Portree site on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, where consent has been secured for an additional 2,000t of capacity.
Craig Anderson, chief executive of SSC, said: “We have worked in partnership with Gael Force for several years and this newly-commissioned barge highlights our commitment to supporting Scottish businesses and local sourcing.
“The design process was very much a collaborative approach, both in terms of the technology and health and safety aspects. This commission reflects our commitment to investing in innovation to improve our operational efficiency and support business growth.”
Delivery this year
Work on the barge will begin imminently at the Gael Force base in Inverness.
Delivery is expected later this year.
SSC is a major producer of Scottish salmon, employing 500 people across 60 sites on the West Coast Scotland and the Hebrides.
The company has a longstanding partnership with Gael Force and in 2016 it signed an exclusive contract with the business as preferred supplier of consumables.
The partnership has resulted in the development of a new software platform, designed to enable more efficient and cost-effective ordering of consumables from all 60 SSC sites and processing plants.
