Slurry Ice System, the Scottish based company, has recently commissioned a S16P for Gollenes, a new 60m pelagic vessel built for Norwegian owners in Denmark.

The contract came about after Slurry Ice was asked if it could rebuild a slush system on the company’s existing vessel.

Keeping the refrigeration part of the system, the original generators were removed and replaced with 2 x S4 generators, which reduced the space required and also increased production by approximately 30%, still utilising existing compressor. Slurry Ice says that upgrading existing systems has been a big part of the company’s market and is helping build its reputation.

The new system onboard Gollenes is a pre cooled 4 x S4 generator system, 64Kw, with the capability of producing approximately 18t of slurry ice per day at 25% mixture, and 35t at 10%.

Vessel owners are finding that chilling the fish when they come onboard the vessel is making a huge difference to the quality of the product, and maintaining this through the processing line is important. The slurry systems can be used to feed a holding tank or be pumped directly to stations around the vessel, including receiving hopper - ensuring the chilling process begins immediately the fish come onboard.

The company is now offering full range of flake ice machines, complimenting the slurry ice systems, for both land based and offshore markets. These systems can be run on both fresh water and sea water. Company Director James Duthie commented, “In supplying slurry ice systems we found some clients also required a flake machine for packing their produce after chilling, so we decided to look into supplying this so that in the future we can now offer a complete package. We are also investigating the possibilities of offering a combined system. Trailing has already been done with this so we are looking forward to offering this in the near future.”
