Tersan Shipyard has confirmed it has a contract in place with Parlevliet & Van der Plas to build a new state-of-the-art pelagic freezer trawler.

Assigned with the building number NB1119, the vessel’s steel cutting started in April 2023. The trawler, whose home port will be Katwijk in Netherlands, has been designed by Tersan’s long-term partner Skipsteknisk and has an overall length of 111.5 metres.
The newbuild will have the most fuel-efficient engine in its class, Wartsila 32. The vessel’s design is optimised for fuel consumption, emissions and noise, while environmentally-friendly refrigerants are planned to be used to cool, freeze and store the fish onboard.
It will have sufficient accommodation for up to 60 people onboard with spacious and comfortable living places including a sauna and fitness area. The vessel will be deployed worldwide to target pelagic species like herring, sardines, mackerel, horse mackerel and blue whiting.
All catches will be frozen onboard and will be destined for human consumption.
In 2015, P&P took delivery of two 82-metre stern freezer trawlers (M/V Kirkella and M/V Mark) from Tersan. The shipyard has also been building vessel NB1108 Jan Maria for the Dutch privately-owned international fisheries company, with the vessel expected to be delivered this year.
