Turkey’s Tersan Shipyard has confirmed delivery of vessel NB1117, soon to be named “Inuksuk II”, a factory freezer stern trawler constructed for Niqitaq Fisheries of Canada.

The 80-metre-long, 18-meter-wide vessel, which is designed for both single and twin trawl operations, is the fourth ship Tersan has built for a Canadian client.
Inuksuk II is equipped with an advanced onboard factory to process and freeze catches of Greenland halibut and shrimp. With a capacity to store 1,320 tonnes of frozen-at-sea Greenland halibut or 930 tonnes of shrimp.
Regarded as the largest Canadian-owned fishing vessel, it is designed for operations in the North Atlantic and polar regions, including NEAFC, NAFO and ICES regulatory areas.
Designed by Skipsteknisk of Norway and built under the supervision of DNV Class Society, Inuksuk II can accommodate 38 crew members, offering spacious living quarters and social amenities.
“Inuksuk II is a testament to our shipyard’s capability to deliver state-of-the-art vessels that meet the highest standards of quality and performance. We are honored to have built the largest Canadian-owned fishing vessel, which will significantly enhance the fishing operations in the North Atlantic and polar regions, and we are grateful for the trust and collaboration with Niqitaq Fisheries” Tersan Shipyard Managing Director Mehmet Gazioğlu.
Niqitaq Fisheries, a subsidiary of Baffin Fisheries Coalition, has been a leading commercial fishing enterprise in Northern Canada since 2001, harvesting over 10,000 tonnes of Greenland halibut and coldwater shrimp annually.
“We appreciate all the hard work from the men and women at the Tersan Shipyard, and look forward to operating this beautiful vessel in a safe and productive manner for decades to come,” Baffin Fisheries Chair Kelly Kilabuk said.
