Swedish company Searef has used polythylene piping instead of conventional pipes as part of its latest system for fishroom chillers for vessels between 15 and 35 meteres.
The compact chiller system has been developed for vessels where engineroom space is limited or on an older vessel where refrigeration was not orginally fitted.
Searef says that about 100kW per cubic metre is needed to chill a fishroom and that the company has three compressors in its range which can be fitted to any specification.
The smallest in the range has a 6.5kW cooling capacity and is ideal for a fishroom up to 65 cubic metres. The middle size has a 9.5kW capacity and the larest in the range has 16.5kW capacity which is designed for fishrooms between 165 and 200 cubic metres.
The use of polyethylene piping means that even with liquid in the pipes at --30C the pipes still have a very low level of icing.
