Vietnam’s fisheries yield in the first half of 2022 increased by 2.5% year-on-year to almost 4.2 million tonnes, according to data released by the country’s Directorate of Fisheries.

The total included more than 3 million tonnes of fish, up 1.7%; 520,000 tonnes of shrimp, up 9.4%; and 632,400 tonnes of other marine products, up 1.2%.

Vietnamese aquaculture production in the first six months of this year was estimated at almost 2.27 million tonnes, up 7.4% over the same period of 2021. This farmed production included more than 1.5 million tonnes of fish (+6.5%), 448,400 tonnes of shrimp (+11.3%) and 266,500 tonnes of other marine products (+5.8%).

Pangasius output reached 772,500 tonnes, up 11.2% over the same period last year, while white leg shrimp production reached 299,700 tonnes (+16.3%), and black tiger shrimp production reached 117,900 tonnes (+2.5%).

Fishing production in the first six months of the year was estimated at more than 1.9 million tonnes, down 2.6% over the same period of 2021, of which fish accounted for less than 1.5 million tonnes (-2.9%), shrimp totalled 71,600 tonnes (-1.2%) and other aquatic products reached 365,900 tonnes (-1.8%).
