The overall winner winner will be crowned on 25 February 2026 at the awards ceremony in London

Andrew Crook, President of the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), which runs the awards, praised the contribution of the shortlisted businesses: “Small businesses are the lifeblood of the UK high street, and they provide the kind of opportunity, variety and individuality that boosts economies and brings us all together. The shortlisted 10 are making long-lasting contributions to uphold the great British institution of fish and chips, whether it’s with a traditional take or elevated to fine dining status.”

Luke Townsend, Marketing Manager at Friars Pride, said: “Each of these incredible shops truly demonstrates a deep passion for the industry and a commitment to providing an outstanding experience for every customer. We wish all of you the very best of luck in the next round.”

Georgina Colbeck, Director at Henry Colbeck, added: “The restaurant category deserves the kudos of winning its own trophy and we can’t wait to see the next winner lifting the Best Restaurant Plate at the awards.”

Meanwhile, Robert Fernandes, marketing manager at VA Whitley, called the finalists “true ambassadors for the nation’s favourite dish”.

Last year’s winner, Bells Fish & Chips of Framwellgate Moor, County Durham, offered words of encouragement to this year’s contenders. Managing Director Graham Kennedy described the experience as “one of the proudest moments” in the company’s history.

“To this year’s contenders, enjoy every step of the journey and take pride in the recognition your hard work has earned,” he said.

The 10 shortlisted restaurants will now undergo rigorous assessments covering product knowledge, operational standards, and sustainability credentials. The top five scoring outlets will progress to the semi-finals later this year, with the overall winner crowned at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge, on 25 February 2026.

As part of the prize, the winner and two runners-up will join Seafood from Iceland on a three-day trip to the Westfjords in June, coinciding with Iceland’s Fishermen’s Day celebrations.
