“These businesses are bringing fire to the industry,” said Andrew Crook, event organiser and president of the National Federation of Fish Friers. “This is a superb final – well done to them!”

Judges have assessed each finalist on everything from food quality to customer service, with anonymous visits and taste tests set to determine the ultimate winner. The victor will be announced at a ceremony on 25 February at London’s Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.

The title is currently held by Mackerel Sky in Stamford Bridge, Yorkshire and the competition has become known for spotlighting the next big names in fish and chips.

“Despite recent challenges, fish and chips remains the nation’s favourite meal,” said Andrew Marriott, UK brand & marketing manager at Frymax who sponsored the award.

“Our finalists have seized the opportunity to build thriving businesses and we hope they enjoy long and successful careers.”
