European Union markets imported 332,097 tonnes of shrimp from third-country producers in the first nine months of 2025, with the total representing a 18% increase on the corresponding period of last year, confirms the latest industry analysis from Shrimp Insights.

The organisation also advised that the import value grew even faster than volume, with the total value reaching €2.1 billion in the period, up 22% year-on-year, indicating higher €/kg values throughout the year to date.

The analysis further found that Southern EU markets were the dominant importing region, accounting for 202,243 tonnes in the first three quarters of 2025, up 18% compared to last year. Northwestern EU also showed solid growth, importing 119,398 tonnes between January and September – also up 18% year-on-year. Eastern EU imports increased 12% to 10,456 tonnes.

In terms of products, raw frozen Penaeus shrimp accounted for the majority of imports, with imports reaching 290,567 tonnes  – up 18% year-on-year. Value-added shrimp imports in the period totalled 41,530 tonnes, which was 19% higher than last year. 

With regards to exporters, Ecuador remained the largest supplier by far, shipping 181,777 tonnes to the EU in the first nine months – a 36% increase year-on-year. India strengthened its position as the second-largest supplier, with 44,066 tonnes in the same period, up 28% year-on-year. Vietnam followed with 41,010 tonnes – up 14% year-on-year, while Venezuela experienced a sharp decline of 51% year-on-year to 16,565 tonnes and Bangladesh’s exports jumped 29% to 10,540 tonnes.
