A project that provides a specialist advisory and support service for fresh water fisheries in Dumfries and Galloway is to receive funding from Europe.
On approving the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grant, Deputy Enterprise Minister Allan Wilson said:
"I'm pleased to announce funding of over £23,000 for the Galloway Fisheries Trust which will allow them to continue their work in supporting local Small to Medium sized Enterprises and providing valuable advice to fishing businesses.
"This project will work to improve the region's freshwater fishing resources, as well as market and promote fishing online - we hope to see great results for local businesses as a result.
"Projects in the South of Scotland have received around £48m to date through the European Regional Development Fund - bringing valuable economic and social support and real opportunities to the area."
With this European investment from the South of Scotland Programme, Galloway Fisheries Trust will be able to continue its existing and specialist advisory and support service for fresh water fishery SMEs throughout Dumfries and Galloway.
The South of Scotland Objective 2 Programme 2000-2006 is a £50.4 million European Regional Development Fund. Funds already committed to projects across the South of Scotland is approx £48 million.
European Structural Funds help work to reinforce and add value to a number of the Scottish Executive's key policies such as the Framework for Economic Development in Scotland, Workforce Plus - An Employability Framework for Scotland, Closing the Opportunity Gap, Regeneration Policy Statement, the NEET Strategy, More Choices More Chances, Smart Successful Scotland, and the Lifelong Learning Strategy.
