According to the Norwegian Seafood Export Council, salmon exports totalled 1.4 BNOK in August, which is 386 MNOK more than during the same month last year. The volume (in round weight) increased by % to 42,000 tonnes, a record for the month of August.
So far this year, salmon exports are at 10.7 BNOK, an increase of 2.9 BNOK from the same period last year. The volume, in round weight, has increased by approximately 18,000 tonnes to 339,000 tonnes.
The EU continues to grow for Norwegian salmon
Salmon exports to the EU increased in August by 294 MNOK to 1.1 BNOK. The volume increased simultaneously by 1,700 tonnes to 33,000 tonnes. The greatest growth was to Spain, The Netherlands and Sweden.
Growth to Russia – finally
After seven months with declines in exports to Russia, salmon exports are once again on the rise. The increase in value compared with August 2005 was at 35 MNOK to 116 MNOK, while the volume increased by 147 tonnes to 3,352 tonnes.
Reduced exports to Japan
Japan has been one of the most important markets for Norwegian salmon, but now, exports are declining. In August, salmon exports to Japan were reduced by 4 MNOK to 56 MNOK. In August 255, Japan was the 7th most important salmon market. This August, the market has dropped to 11th place.
