SAILOR has launched the UAIS1800 transponder and KDU1805, which will increase the safety at sea, acoording to the company.
SAILOR UAIS1800 is an advanced integrated system with an 8-channel GPS and a built-in VHF. To make the system operational, only a display system, a VHF antenna, a GPS antenna and power are needed.
This makes the system very reliable, as only few connections are required.
The transponder will automatically transmit static data such as MMSI, Call sign/name, type of ship, length/beam, antenna location and IMO number.
It has one port for DGNSS equipment, and three ports are available for interconnection of other types of navigational equipment on board, e.g. the Gyro, the Compass, the Echo Sounder etc.
This dynamic data collected from the instruments can also be transmitted with the static data, giving the receiving vessels more knowledge of the vessels near by. Voyage-related static data such as destination and cargo can also be included in the messages.
The AIS transponder can help the navigational officer to 'see round corners' during navigation within VHF range and, thus, be helpful e.g. during navigation in narrow waters where the coast line may prevent the radar from detecting 'hidden' ships.
The SAILOR UAIS1800 is introduced in order to meet the market demand, which will be initiated by the IMO regulations on the mandatory installation of AIS equipment coming into force on July 1st 2002.
All SOLAS vessels must install AIS equipment in order to fulfil the IMO resolution MSC.74(69) Annex 3, ITU.R.M.1371, IEC 61993-2 and IEC 61162-2 during the next couple of years and the first vessels must comply with the resolutions on July 1st 2002.
SAILOR has supplied maritime communications equipment for more than 50 years and by being among the first to launch an AIS-product, SAILOR brings the maritime expertise into this field as well. Safety at sea will be increased by the AIS system due to the fact that vessels carrying AIS will be able to get an overview of other AIS-equipped vessels within VHF range as the transponders will communicate automatically and as the information can be displayed on different kinds of display systems, which may include sea maps.
The KDU1805, Keyboard Display Unit, fulfils the IMO requirements of a mandatory control and display unit, and will often be used in combination with more advanced display systems already installed on board the vessels.
SAILOR is a world leader in the technologically advanced field of maritime communications.
A wide range of products from GMDSS equipment and satellite communications equipment to simple VHF's are ensuring the safety at sea and the daily communication around the world.
