Rolls-Royce has signed a repeat order from Norwegian shipping company Sølvtrans AS for a second live fish transport vessel - on the strength of the first one.
The new ship is a sister to an earlier order for Sølvtrans AS, one of the world's largest transporters of liv fish, which is due for delivery in June this year.This latest contract includes options for two more vessels of the same type.
Monrad Hide, Rolls-Royce general manager - fishing vessels, said: “This new vessel will be built according to the same specifications as the first with a high level of technology and environmental solutions. Our innovative hull design ensures cost effective operations and fuel efficiency as well as low emissions to air and sea.”
The ship can carry around 400t of live fish, in temperature-controlled tanks. The vessel will have spacious temperature controlled tanks in the hold of the ship to in order to transport live fish efficiently and healthily from fish farms to fish processing plants on shore.
Rolls-Royce says that the priority for this type of vessel is to get the fish to the end consumer as fresh as possible, and it's the specifically tailored Rolls-Royce ship design that makes that possible.
The vessel will be built at Zamakona in Spain, with expected delivery in early 2014, and late 2014 and mid 2015 for the options. The vessels are to the Rolls-Royce NVC 386 design, featuring a diesel-electric propulsion plant based on two C6 diesel engines and a hybrid shaft generator to reduce onboard energy consumption.
