The onboard combi-factory that will feature on Tromsø fishing company Båragutt Havfiske AS’s new vessel Eilifson is being designed, built and installed by Carsoe.

Aalborg-headquartered onboard processing equipment specialists Carsoe explained the factory deck will offer several processing options for the crew. An efficient H/G whitefish processing line will include four automated V16 plate freezers and custom processing lines to lead the fish directly to the cargo hold. There will also be a complete shrimp processing line with grading, cooking and IQF freezing.
This multitude of possibilities is a Carsoe trademark, Carsoe Sales Manager Trond Bjørnøy said. “This is a great example of our expertise in seafood processing. The combi-factory onboard Eilifson is designed for several processing options, all centered around automation.”
Båragutt Havfiske Manager Arvid Hansen said Carsoe was chosen as the factory supplier to ensure it delivered the maximum processing capacity for both fish and shrimp in the limited space onboard. Its intricate layout, incorporating the onboard workflow and processing requirements, is the result of close collaboration between Carsoe and Båragutt.
“We see Carsoe as a serious and quality-proven partner. Even though it is a large company, and our factory is not among the largest they supply, we feel that we get full focus and attention,” Hansen said.
One part of the factory is a H/G processing line with a capacity of 40 tonnes a day. The line includes efficient heading, gutting, bleeding as well as efficient freezing in the four V16 vertical plate freezers with automated unloading systems.
This, Carsoe said, ensures a continuous flow and maintains a high processing capacity.
“We aim to have a factory that delivers from day one with little downtime and trouble-free operations. With the extensive testing of equipment and solutions before installation and the considerable support provided by Carsoe during commissioning in the various seasons, we are confident that we will succeed.”
Eilifson’s shrimp processing will be a continuous cooking line with a capacity of 15 tonnes a day. This includes automatic grading, and efficient continuous cooking in two Connie cookers followed by a double IQF freezing tunnel. Its frozen products will be packed in 5kg cartons before going to the cargo hold.
“We are very happy to be able to cook three different sizes of shrimp at the same time, in the limited space available in our factory. Shrimp, both for consumption and industry, is important for the vessel. In addition to a good whitefish/redfish factory, we will have a Norwegian top-class shrimp factory,” Hansen said.
Båragutt Havfiske is a family business, owned by two brothers, and Eilifson is named after their father.
The new vessel is designed for both trawl and fly shooting and is 50.45 metres long and 13 meters wide, with the capacity for 18 crew members onboard.
