Plano Pack A/S, manufacturer of cardboard trays laminated with a very thin layer of plastic film for packaging smoked fish by vacuum or Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), will launch its Skinpack at Seafood Processing Global 2014.

Skinpack has been created to lower the costs of packaging and to create a new image which is different to traditional packaging.

Its baseboard is a really strong virgin fibre that is laminated with a high barrier film. The fish is placed on the baseboard and the top film (also a high barrier film) is directly sealed on to the tray itself.

Plano Pack says using Skinpack brings many benefits and enhances the product. It can be fully printed with the customer’s own design on both sides of the tray, in keeping with the customer’s own house style and presentation.

The company also says that using Skinpack reduces the amount of packaging material, as there is no need for an under foil or a sleeve.

Another benefit is that it is very consumer friendly, as it has an easy-peel opening.

For vacuum and MAP packaging, Plano Pack has created a tray with a new baseboard. The company says that as the market is changing, more and more people have their mind set on changing over to a virgin fibre board. A virgin fibre tray is 25% stronger that recycled material which means that packaging weight can be significantly lowered, which reduces costs.
