The North Atlantic Fish Fair (3-5 May 2005, http://www.fair.fo) will take place under much better circumstances than the two previous fairs because it will be held in Tórshavn and the organisers says this will bring everything under the same roof in the largest hall in the Faroes. The improved quality has showed its benefits -- the interest in NAFF 2005 has been ''enormous'' and the event is practically sold out, they said.
Higher quality
The new venue offers much better conditions for both exhibitors and guests. By renting the largest hall in the Faroes, all exhibitors will be under the same roof as the hall in question covers 5, 000 square metres. "Holding the fair in such a well-equipped hall improves the entire fair considerably", says Mr. Dánial Petur Hansen, managing director of North Atlantic Fish Fair. The hall is situated at SandvÃkahjalla in the eastern part of Tórshavn where the main road from north and west enters the city. This is a central location which makes it easily accessible for people from all over the Faroes.
It will also be convenient for foreign visitors to use the hotel capacity and other facilities in Tórshavn. It is also a central location for those staying outside Tórshavn.
Something to live up to
This year's fair has a lot to live up to. When the first fair took place in 2001, no one really knew what to expect from such a fair in the Faroes. Both Faroese and foreign exhibitors welcomed the fair and it became a success. That year there were 212 exhibitors, 107 of whom were Faroese and 105 came from abroad. A total of 7,000 people visited the fair, more than expected. The organisers work was acknowledged on the annual industry day and awarded 'Initiative of the year' by the Faroese House of Industry.
The year 2003 was the one that was going to prove whether the North Atlantic Fish Fair was only a single success here to stay. The figures spoke for themselves. There were 307 exhibitors from 19 countries. More than 11,000 people from 27 different countries visited the fair and this was well beyond expectations.
Conference facilities
Conference facilities at the North Atlantic Fish Fair will also benefit as the conference is being held in the Nordic House in Tórshavn. The Nordic House is the cultural centre of Tórshavn and is ideal for conferences and large arrangements. The programme for the conference will be available soon, more information will be available at the homepage www.fair.fo. A proud mayor of Tórshavn, Mr. Hedin Mortensen, has told the Faroe Islands Business News, that he and all the rest of the staff in the City Council of Tórshavn are looking forward to the Fish Fair and will do their utmost to make the event unforgettable.
Travel and accommodation
Green Gate Incoming, a subsidiary of Atlantic Airways, will be handling the fair's travel and accommodation arrangements. People wishing to book travel and hotel accommodation are encouraged to contact Green Gate Incoming as soon as possible in order to be sure to get a reservation.
