Mr. Niels Svennevig has more than 30 years of international experience in development of especially tropical marine aquaculture. He has been widely used by Governments and donors in tropical aquaculture sector development studies/strategies both with a focus on livelihood development as well as development of the commercial corporate sector including the support/supply sector to the primary farming industry. He has also assisted private investors in identifying business strategies and setting up companies for tropical marine fish farming.
He has been involved in projects in more than 25 countries including most of South and Southeast Asia. Most of the last 20 years he has spent based in Vietnam especially working as Senior Technical Advisor on three phases of a Norwegian co-sponsored capacity building project at Research Institute for Aquaculture no 1, and 8 years in establishing and managing a Norwegian invested large-scale marine fish farm. In 2009 he received the Honour of Merit from the Vietnamese Government for his contributions to development of the aquaculture sector. After working for the Norwegian institute SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture for 18 years he has since 2011 been independent consultant working out from Vietnam.
