Piriou has delivered a new 15.95 metre LOA, 7.20 metre beam trawler Jean-Baptiste Marion, who works from Grandcamp-Maisy in Normandy, alternating trawling and scalloping.

Ordered in July 2018, Télémaque is the result of a close cooperation between Jean-Baptiste Marion and the Piriou shipyard, with the design work handled by naval architect Coprexma, which has a long track record of designing this class of fishing vessel.

Télémaque is both quiet and stable, fulfilling Jean-Baptiste Marion’s requirement for heavy sound insulation on board and the best possible seakeeping qualitites. The inverted bow contributes to excellent crew comfort and increases both volume under the bridge and speed without increasing fuel consumption. Télémaque has a Cummins KTA19 main engine driving a 2000mm diameter fixed pitch propeller.

“With this new contract Piriou confirms its willingness to maintain its place on this market sector that has strong historical importance for the group,” said Piriou CEO Vincent Faujour.

“This delivery is an opportunity to take part in the renewal of the French coastal fishing fleet. This project was achieved by a small- close team, organised to manage efficiently and competitively this type of building while also dealing with current maintenance of vessels such as the first Télémaque owned by Jean-Baptiste Marion. Once again, a trust-based relationship that goes back to 2007 has led to a newbuilding.”

Jean-Baptiste Marion has been fishing for more than 15 years, initially with the previous Télémaque, and comes from a long tradition of fishing from Grandcamp-Maisy with generations of fishermen behind him.

“Piriou in Lorient has looked after maintenance of of original Télémaque. I am completely satisfied with their reliability, so it seemed and natural to work together on a new building project,” he said.

“The Piriou team listened carefully to my requests both at the initial stages and throughout the construction. I appreciate this straightforward approach which made it possible to complete this delivery, and a relationship which will continue in the future.”
