Greece aquaculture target
The Association of Greek Mariculture (FGM) has said the Greek industry should focus on doubling its production in order to maintain its lead internationally.
As well as meet growing demand from competition, with Turkey being its main opponent in the Mediterranean aquaculture industry.
According to the association, the production volume is expected to reach close to 235,000 tonnes which is worth €1.2bn, and the industry is expected to create up to 3,000 new jobs.
FGM has called for Greek producers to double the production by 2030, these objectives are in the 2012 vision of development which was created in cooperation with the European Platform for Research and Innovation in Aquaculture (EATiP)
It is said that a national promotion strategy and emphasis on research and innovation will be key to the doubling of national aquaculture production and to addressing pressure from Turkey.
Until now there has never been a comprehensive national promotional campaign, actions have only been implemented at corporate level or through co-financed programmes.
