New products and new contracts
The SJ-WP scaleIcelandic distributor Eltak is “very happy” with this year’s Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition. Managing Director Jónas Ágústsson talks to World Fishing & Aquaculture about the new products on display and contracts signed during the exhibition so far.
Brand new at the exhibition is the IP67 Compact Bench Scale SJ-WP from A&D Company. The unique construction of the scale offers a number of innovations in hygiene and weight management, and the low cost makes it affordable for factories where many scales are required.
As the scale is IP67 it means that it is suitable for use in fish factories where water is all around, and can be submerged in water for cleaning. Mr Ágústsson says, “This is an IP67 at probably the lowest cost for a product like this in this industry.”
The scale features a unique design where all of the electronics completely sealed inside, while the load cell remains exposed. The load cell is made from stainless steel, so it will not rust. Derek Higgins, Weighing Business Unit Manager at A&D says, “There is no other product on the market – that I know of – that has this style of design.”
The scale also features transparent panels around the load cell, a quickly removable pan support, and an integrated overload protection mechanism.
Mr Ágústsson estimates that around 50 of these scales have been sold so far at the exhibition.
Also new on the Eltak stand this year is the X5 SpaceSaver X-ray inspection system from Loma Systems. This new system x-rays the final packaged product, checking it for metal, glass, stone, plastic, rubber and any other foreign objects that may be present after packaging – not just metal. Features of this machine include an intuitive full colour touch screen, belt speed of up to 75m/min with optimum performance, and rounded, sloping surfaces that ensure that food particles and wash-down droplets cannot accumulate.
Mr Ágústsson says that there has been a lot of interest in this new product during the exhibition.
He also tells WF&A that contracts have been signed during the exhibition for eight Soco Systems T-100 carton sealing machines and two Soco Systems pallet stretch wrappers.
“We are happy with the exhibition, as always,” Mr Ágústsson. “We have been at the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition for 30 years so we know what to expect. We were happy in 2008 and 2011, and are happier in 2014!”
