Greenpeace has recently issued its 2006 supermarket sustainability league table.

The organisation has been monitoring the progress of UK supermarkets as they begin to improve the sustainability of the seafood that they sell.

They were marked on the sustainability of their policy on wild-caught seafood; the sustainability of their policy on farmed seafood; the brands and ranges of seafood covered by their seafood procurement policies; transparency of policies and their implementation; and public promotion of sustainable seafood.

Marks and Spencer emerged first, followed by Waitrose in second place. Sainsbury's is third and Co-op fourth. Asda, Morrisons and Tesco all came joint fifth, with Somerfield in eighth place and Iceland ninth.
