The Port of Hanstholm (Denmark) is opening a new Hanstholm Seafood Centre on September 9.

The centre is part of a project to improve the port's fish market and to keep 'the unbreakable cool chain' from sea to plate.

The first two parts of the project, which involved the installation of a bigger auction room and a new cooling system as well as an automatised fish handling system have already been installed.

The third part of the project, which will allow direct access from the wharf to the loading bays so fish can go straight from the market to refrigerated trucks, is expected to be completed next year.

The total cost of the project is 40 million Danish Krone (DK) (ca. €5,370,370).

Hanstholm harbour is Denmark's biggest port for human consumption accounting for 48,000 tonnes of fish.

The port handles fishing vessels from the EU, Iceland, Norway, the Faroese and Greenland.
