After having its trawl door production at Plunge in Lithuania for the last seven years, the company last year began expanding its facilities there to include aquaculture net production.

In spite of the current difficulties facing the industry, Mørenot’s new facility at Plungė has delivered its first completed aquaculture net, produced under precautions to ensure a safe working environment for staff.
The new 11,000 square metre production facility was opened recently, focused on the assembly and treatment of nets for the aquaculture industry, and expanding Mørenot’s net assembly capacity.
“Being a large global producer, we are committed to setting new standards to sustainably harvest food from the sea. With the new factory in Lithuania, we will increase the efficiency and control of the entire value chain. Our products and services for catching fish in the sea and cultivating them in clean ocean environments in safe and efficient manner, will become even more competitive,” said Arne Birkeland, CEO of Mørenot when the new facility was opened earlier this year.
Netting used to make the nets is produced in Mørenot's factory at Hildre in Norway. With the new factory in Lithuania in operation, Mørenot’s net production facility in Spain will provide nets, service and support to markets in Southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
“We have good experiences with our existing trawl door production in Lithuania. The location improves our logistics with reduced delivery times and lower transport emissions. Additionally, the location has the necessary expertise available, which ensures the continued production of high-quality products,’ Arne Birkeland said.
The new factory is managed by Liudas Velykis, who has up to now been in charge of Mørenot's trawl door production at the same location.
The facility will require 50 new employees for the first half of 2020, increasing to 100 by the end of the year.
